Sahih Muslim in The English Language By Abdul Hamid Siddiqui

Sahih Muslim

Sahih Muslim

In the last post, I spoke about the Sunnah of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him. I mentioned Sahih al Bukhari, which is considered to be the most authentic book after the Quran, as it contains sound narrations from the Prophet, peace be upon him.

The collection of hadith which is considered next to Sahih al Bukhari is Sahih Muslim, which was compiled by Imam Muslim bin Hajjaj. He is considered to be among the two most reliable scholars of hadith, the first one being Imam Muhammad bin Ismail al Bukhari, the author of Sahih al Bukhari. If a hadith is narrated by both the scholars, it is considered to be the most authentic, and is known to be ‘agreed upon’.

Just like Imam Bukhari, even Imam Muslim travelled miles for the collection of hadith and worked hard on separating sound narrations from the weak and fabricated ones.

Books of hadith are many, but six of them are most popular and are called ‘The Six (Major) Books’. Sahih al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are the first two of the six books. These two books contain only sound narrations and none of them are weak.

Sahih Muslim has been translated into the English language for the English speaking readers by some translators. It is widely and freely available all over the world. Readers can access online versions from below; these translations are by Abdul Hamid Siddiqui.
